Mark Rubin spoke with GameInformer in a new podcast and talked some information regarding the PC version of Ghosts.

First he confirmed that as of right now, they don’t have any plans of a FOV slider in Ghosts, but that can change.

Next he talked about mod tools and said the studio is in “very early” look at what can be done with mod tools and Ghosts. He even said if things workout, mods may come to consoles.

Finally, Rubin spoke about PC and said they have big plans for features on PC that will be out post launch. Infinity Ward is working on pushing the boundaries of the PC version, and some of these features will be available after launch.

In the new trailer today, it has been confirmed that there’s a maximum of 60 levels per prestige in Ghosts.

MW3 had 80 levels, but with only 60, it may be harder to level up with larger amount of XP between each level but that’s just a guess..

  5. Mark Rubin has posted an update on Twitter regarding all the talk about Ghosts’s quickscoping feature. Raven Software designer said in an interview that quickscoping won’t be in Ghosts, which led many to ask to see if that’s actually true. Mark Rubin today confirmed that it was, and it said that quickscoping is basically gone from Ghosts.

One of the areas that is getting lot of love in Call of Duty: Ghosts is the Sniper Rifle. By creating the Marksman class we were able to focus the Sniper class on really powerful high-caliber weapon systems. We feel, and many of the pro players who have played would agree, that sniping has never been better.

The changes we’ve made, like dual render scopes and increased damage really make snipers a great competitive class to use. We’ve also done a lot with map design (sight lines and cover) to ensure that all classes are viably effective. Both short range and long range classes will be effective on the same maps.

However in re-envisioning sniper rifles some aspects, such as sway timing, have changed the way sniper rifles function and so traditional “quick-scoping” has been affected. Is it gone completely? Maybe. It certainly won’t be viable in the way it previously was. Can’t wait for you snipers out there to get your hands on these new sniper rifles and try them out for yourselves.

    See you in game!

The event will take place from Friday, November 8 through to Monday, November 11 allowing players to earn twice the amount of XP for their multiplayer character as usual.

The event will apply to current-generation consoles given it is too early in the month for the PlayStation 4 release.

  7. The last DLC instalment for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will hit PS3/PC players on September 26th.

Apocalypse includes four all new multiplayer maps and Origins, the latest Zombies story development from Treyarch.

“On September 26, the epic season of Downloadable Content (DLC) for Call of Duty®: Black Ops II culminates with the release of Apocalypse for PlayStation®3 and PC fans. The fourth and final DLC Pack from Activision and its award-winning studio Treyarch lets players dig into four thrilling and diverse multiplayer maps, as well as Call of Duty®: Black Ops II Origins – the all-new, wildly creative Zombies experience that reunites players with the original heroes going back to Call of Duty®: World at War, and closes this chapter of the Zombies story''
  8. Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin stated in an interview with Edge that they’re working hard to eliminate the online abuse within Call of Duty with their upcoming game, Ghosts.

Online abuse has been a big issue in any games, but it has taken a turn for the worst with Call of Duty. Just this year, David Vonderhaar – Design Director at Treyarch – received several death threats after he changed the sniper by 0.02 seconds. Rubin says developer have to stand their ground and stand by their decisions once its made.

“We have to stand our ground,” says Rubin. “We have to be designers. An interesting analogy would be as a parent – if the kids got their way on what they ate for dinner every night, it would be ice cream and cookies every night. We have to use our talents and abilities as designers to collect and interpret what the various community members are saying.”

“A lot of the time you’ll get one guy saying ‘I want blue weapons’ and another will say ‘I want red weapons.’ We can’t do both,” he continues. “We have to say neither of you are wrong or right. We‘re going to make that call – some guys will be upset if we do this, and someone else will be upset if we do that. We don’t let it drive us nuts.”

Rubin also talked about the fact that the online abuse that happens within game is something that needs to stop, but he acknowledges that its impossible to stop everyone.

“If you have 10 million plus people a day playing, we’re not going to get it 100 per cent and we’re not going to get every single person,” he says. “But it’s still something we put a lot of effort into, and that’s very important. Gaming is entertainment, y’know? This is not politics, I’m not curing cancer, I’m not doing anything important from that perspective. It’s supposed to be fun, and I severely dislike when people bring hate and anger into what is supposed to be a fun environment. I enjoy playing whether it’s losing or winning – I try to win, but I’m not a jerk about it, and I wish more players were like that. I don’t know what the answer is.”

Mark said that the most effective way to stop this abuse will be Sony/MSFT working together with IW to ban/remove as many players who do such things as possible.

  9. Treyarch pushed the boundaries on how a Call of Duty game should support and be part of eSports with Black Ops 2. Competitive Call of Duty went from a subtle notice with MW3, to be one of the biggest games in competitive scene with Black Ops 2. But how will Infinity Ward continue this success?

With Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward and Activision have already committed to bringing the Call of Duty: Championship back in 2014. The Call of Duty: Championship 2013 was a huge success; it had the biggest viewership out of any competitive Call of Duty scene ever. They’ve also confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be the exclusive FPS for all MLG Pro Circuit events throughout 2014, starting with MLG Columbus in Nov 2013.

The support with events is confirmed, but what about the features in-game? In Black Ops 2, Treyarch added new features including in-game live streaming, CODCasting mode for casters, full support of LAN lobbies, and more.

Infinity Ward’s MW3 didn’t have any support for eSports. It took them over 5 months to add the basic feature of competitive LAN settings. By that time, MLG didn’t bother to add MW3 to the competitive scene.

For Ghosts, Infinity Ward appears to be on the right track. They’ve added a new ‘spectator mode’ (it’s different from CODCasting as CODCasting won’t return), which allows casters to see the game, change player views, see scoreboards, and more. Infinity Ward has removed the live streaming feature, but as the competitive scene will be played on Xbox One, that won’t be a big problem.

Infinity Ward has added a new playlist – which will replace League Play – called ‘Clan vs. Clan’ playlist. This playlist will allow you to play with other members of your clan against other clans. Mark Rubin said that they plan to use the leader boards of the Clan vs. Clan playlist to determine some, not all, of the qualifiers for the 2014 Championship.

Infinity Ward has also added new game modes, including Search & Rescue and Blitz, which should help increase viewership of the competitive Call of Duty scene by adding new gameplay and tactics from pro players.

It looks like Infinity Ward has chosen the right path with how to approach the eSports scene of Call of Duty. They’ve kept the features that are a must – competitive LAN, spectator mode – and added new modes to help diversify the competitive scene.

Mark Rubin has confirmed in an interview with Outside Xbox that in Ghosts MP, there will be a new ‘Clan vs. Clan’ playlist which will replace Black Ops 2′s League Play playlist.

This new playlist requires you to play with your clan members against other clans. This playlist will have a leaderboard that shows which clan is the best, and Infinity Ward plans to use these leader boards to determine which teams can qualify for the Call of Duty: Championship in 2014.

  15. It was announced at MP reveal event that you character in Ghosts would be transferable between consoles within the same family, however, Mark Rubin today said that you can transfer your characters between any platform.

This means that you can go from an Xbox 360 to a PS4 and all your character stuff will be available for you. Same with PS3 to Xbox One. Or even between the PC.

“So what we did was we created this idea of your Call Of Duty character – who you are – goes anywhere.

“So if I have an Xbox 360 and I purchase Call Of Duty: Ghosts on 5 November and Christmas comes and I finally get my Xbox One. My character will be there, so I don’t have to start over and start from scratch.”

“And it goes deeper from that,” adds Rubin. “Whatever console I have and I’m playing on, I can go to friends’ houses and I could play on their consoles even if they’re completely different.”

“And you can go back and forth if you want. You can go any platform you want – PC as well. That’s something I think that as a player is important because, again, we hope we’re supporting people who don’t have tons of income.”
