The official description for the Atlas Gorge bonus multiplayer map, which is a re-imagined version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s Pipeline map, states that the map has a ‘map-based turret scorestreak.’

Atlas Gorge re-envisions the fan-favorite Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map Pipeline. The Atlas Corporation has commandeered the world’s largest power source, the Three Gorges Dam in central China, whose sinister backdrop creates a gripping setting for multiplayer battle. Combatants will navigate the shadows, explore the map’s new verticality empowered by exoskeleton technology, and control a map-based turret scorestreak that overlooks the dam and helps to keep enemies at bay.

Now, this is interesting because in the teaser footage we saw today, we can see in the bottom right of the screen that it appears like scorestreaks are returning to Advanced Warfare. Users on Twitter and in our comments section have sent us close up images of what appears to be scorestreaks:

With each new Call of Duty release comes an enhancement in visuals, and Advanced Warfare is set to be no exception.

According to the latest issue of GameInformer, Sledgehammer Co-founder Michael Condrey confirmed Advanced Warfare is “being built on a new engine”.

So what does this all mean? Previous Call of Duty titles have been developed on a heavily modified version of the id Tech 3 version dating back to Call of Duty 2 all the way up to Call of Duty: Ghosts, more commonly named the ‘IW Engine’.

Although each title has seen extensive enhancements in visual quality year on year, no Call of Duty title to this day has been developed on a “brand new” engine.

Based on the comment made by Condrey, we can only assume this is no longer the case and will instead move away from the id Tech/IW Engine to a completely new in-house engine.

With Call of Duty development now switching to a 3 year development cycle, it has given Sledgehammer Games the opportunity to essentially start from scratch. You’ll see evidence of the drastic improvements in the latest Advanced Warfare Reveal Trailer. If you rewind back to previous Call of Duty reveal trailers, you’ll notice they lack the smoothness and attention to detail as seen in the Advanced Warfare trailer.

We should expect to see more details surrounding the new engine in the months to come.

The GameInformer magazine has revealed more details: Advanced Warfare will feature some sort of co-op mode, but they aren’t ready to go into detail about what that mode may be.

Treyarch’s co-op mode is the very popular Zombies mode, and Infinity Ward introduced Extinction with Call of Duty: Ghosts. It’ll be interesting to see what Sledgehammer Games will bring to the table.

New details have emerged from GameInformer’s 12 page edition featuring Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. In the game’s campaign, you will play as Private Mitchell, and he is voiced by Troy Baker. This character was given a generic backstory, so players can better inhabit the character.

Troy Baker only voices during cutscenes and never during actual gameplay.

A new report from Giant Bomb is stating that Neversoft Studio is losing it’s name and merging with Infinity Ward. Infinity Ward and Neversoft have closely been collaborating on Call of Duty: Ghosts, and such, it seem these two are becoming one ‘super studio’ under the Infinity Ward name.

Giant Bomb reports that Activision CEO sent out a memo:

The news was disclosed through a very recent internal memo penned by Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, that was obtained by Giant Bomb.

The newly merged studio will still be called Infinity Ward.

“As you know, Neversoft and Infinity Ward teamed up for the development of Call of Duty: Ghosts,” wrote Hirshberg. “And through that process, it became clear that the two studios have very complementary skill sets. Between these two excellent studios, it seemed like a single ‘super-studio’ could emerge.”

As a result, however, the Neversoft name will be retired.

“The impact of their 20-year run of hard work and success cannot be overstated,” said Hirshberg. “As already mentioned, we are merging these two very talented teams and obviously had to choose a name for the combined studio. Since the Infinity Ward brand is indelibly tied to the Call of Duty franchise, it is the sensible choice. While it will be strange to not see the Neversoft logo on future games, the important things–which are the Neversoft team’s talent, creativity, professionalism and commitment to creative excellence–all remain unchanged as part of this new chapter.”

Giant Bomb is reporting that Dave Stohl, currently the executive VP of worldwide studios for Activision, will be taking over as Studio Head of this newly merged studio. Steve Akrich, current studio head of Infinity Ward, will remain in a leadership position at the studio.

Giant Bomb is also reporting that current studio head Joel Jewett and studio director Scott Pease of Neversoft, who have both been at the company for more than 20 years, “have made the difficult decision to retire” from games.

“As a gamer, all I can say is that I hope both Joel and Scott come of ‘out of retirement’ someday and develop more great Activision games for us all to play,” said Hirshberg. “As a colleague of Joel and Scott’s, all I can say is thank you and congratulations on an incredible run.”

The site also reported that the memo finished with this statement:
