Following an update in late 2015, Xbox One consoles can now play a selection of your old Xbox 360 titles - and the list of available games keeps growing longer. The addition of the backward compatibility feature was welcomed by fans when it was announced at 2015's E3 conference, and since then over 100 titles have been added to the backplay library - including some top rated content. However, some Xbox fans have criticised the delay in bringing favourite games into the feature. Microsoft have limited control over which games can be played through the 360 emulator, but many developers are keen to take advantage of the feature and are making their games available.

Titles were originally added every month in a batch, but Xbox is now releasing games as they are ready. The latest collection includes five titles: Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Flashback, Brain Challenge and Babel Rising. These titles join some major titles such as Fallout 3, Fable, Gears of War and Mass Effect, as well as some retro classics and indie hits. Fans are expecting further announcements at 2016's E3 event, as rumours grow about Red Dead Redemption joining the compatible game ranks. Red Dead is currently leading the public vote for games people want to play, alongside COD: Black Ops 3 and the Skate series.

Some leaked reports online suggest that Red Dead backplay is on the cards in the near future. Online sources spotted a possible early release, with the game briefly available for Xbox One installation last month. It soon disappeared again, but fans are speculating that the 'test' precludes an announcement. Meanwhile, many new releases are now including their older titles in purchases, and announcing them for backward compatibility at this point. With a wave of new Xbox One titles expected toward the end of 2016, it might be that many previous games will be launched in the emulator at the same time. Microsoft regularly updates its available game list online, and we will continue to update you on changes to the list as they happen.
