War on drugs simulator Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting its second expansion on June 6. In Fallen Ghosts you fight against a well-equipped band of nasty folk called Los Extranjeros (“the Foreigners”), who rise out of the brewing civil war that has erupted after you’ve taken down the game’s original baddies, the Santa Blanca cartel. It’s almost as if sending four gung-ho gringos to fight narcotrafficantes with helicopters and grenade spam doesn’t actually stabilise a country. Who could have foreseen this? Sad!

Here’s how the adventure plays out, in Ubisoft’s terms:

In this chaotic situation, the Ghosts have one last mission: evacuate the last CIA members and American civilians remaining in the country. Shot down enroute to their mission, the Ghosts find themselves in the middle of the jungle, without external support, facing deadly enemies equipped with the latest gear and technology.

The Fallen Ghosts campaign will feature 15 new missions in which players will have to take down four new bosses located in three different regions. In the expansion, players will start with a new character at level 30 and equipped with all of the main game skills. The level cap will increase from 30 to 35, and players will be able to unlock nine new skills, including physical, weapon and drones skills.

Your enemies come in four flavours: tanky armoured close combat-ers, elite never-miss-a-shot snipers, electro-jammers with drone-killing death signals, and sneaky invisinerds, with a crossbow and a “prototype cloaking device”. All the usual toys and trinkets you’d expect from a Latin American militia group.

I wasn’t that impressed with Wildlands. It had a huge map but repeated Ubi’s tired formula in an unimaginative way that inspired no joy, with a story that was dumber than any 80s action movie, with none of the self-awareness. But I understand that sometimes you just want to shoot a Bad Man with your three friends. For those interested, Fallen Ghosts is out June 6 but if you’ve got a season pass, it’ll be ready for you a week earlier, on May 30. An earlier DLC, Narco Road, previously added a gang of smugglers, new vehicles and missions. A PvP mode is also in the works, expected in “the coming months” says Ubisoft.

Personally I like that their trying, but this DLC primarily focuses on a bad point in the game (driving those stupid vehicles) and doesn't fix anything at all! Just adds more buggy and broken vehicles to drive. Worth a purchase? No
