Sledgehammer lays out what Call of Duty fans will be playing on Aug. 25

Call of Duty: WWII’s private multiplayer beta kicks off next week on PlayStation 4 and will be available to those who pre-order the game. Today, developer Sledgehammer Games detailed exactly what that multiplayer test will include — and what it won’t.

Expect some of the usual fare; three multiplayer maps (Pointe Du Hoc, Ardennes and Gibraltar) and modes (Team Deathmatch, Domination and Hardpoint) will be playable. Players will also get a peek at Call of Duty: WWII’s new War gameplay mode.

“War, developed in partnership with our friends at Raven Software, is a new way to play Call of Duty Multiplayer in an immersive Allied vs. Axis fight across the war-torn village of St. Lo, France,” Sledgehammer said.

Private beta participants will also get a look at Divisions, which replaces the Pick 10 Create-a-Class system originally created by Treyarch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Sledgehammer’s streamlining of the class creation system will let players join the Infantry, Expeditionary, Airborne, Armored or Mountain Division, each of which have their own combat and weapon skills.

Some features, including the new Headquarters social space and in-game supply drops and loot, won’t be available during the beta. More details are available in Sledgehammer’s post.

The Call of Duty: WWII private multiplayer beta begins Aug. 25 on PS4. Xbox One owners who pre-order will get access to the beta Sept. 1.

Call of Duty: WWII will be released on Nov. 3 for PS4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
