Watch Dogs' Multiplayer Invasions Can Be Switched Off

During a recent livestream of Watch Dogs held by the development team behind the open-world actioner, a number of questions regarding the game were addressed. These included why the game was delayed (the team wanted to deliver on the high expectations surrounding the game), and how Watch Dogs' drop-in multiplayer and invasion facets will work.

Apparently, if you don't want other players randomly jumping in to your game, you can simply turn it off, according to Lead Game Designer Danny Belanger. "All the online activities are just part of the menu," Belanger explained. "They're a choice. But if someone is not into that .... they can totally turn it off."

Invading hackers can also be kept at bay with a number of tools that players will have at their disposal, if you don't fancy being griefed by other players.

"There's also something important called the shield. If someone comes into your game, they can't come in right after so you can't be spammed in that way - unless you become aggressive and you start going into other people's games," Belanger continued. "Then you really become available. But it's just a player choice in the end."

Watch Dogs' multiplayer is more about playing a game of "hide and seek", says Belanger, in which hackers will attempt to hack you and you in return can hack them back. It's not something that's necessarily focused on aggression. As reported last week, Watch Dogs will support up to eight players free-roaming in its open world.

Watch Dogs is out on May 27th.
