Video: SOMA trailer reveals an unexpected setting

A new trailer for SOMA reveals an unexpected setting for the first-person horror game.

Previous trailers and gameplay snippets have explored the corridors of what sci-fi fans may have assumed was a spacecraft or extraterrestrial colony, not unlike the perennial haunts of Alien, Dead Space, and dozens of other futuristic horror franchises.

But instead of going up into space, SOMA's dark, isolated facility goes down into the depths of the ocean.

"Gigantic squid, luminescent fish and creatures that are all mouths and teeth are only the start. If you dive down any distance you enter into a realm of monsters," Frictional Games creative director Thomas Grip said on the PlayStation Blog. "The ocean is an alien world, and we've only scratched the surface. We feel it's the perfect place to explore in a horror game."

Revealed in October last year, the game is billed as a first-person sci-fi horror, headed to PC and PS4 in 2015. Frictional Games helped kick off the new wave of first-person horror games when it released Amnesia: The Dark Descent in 2010.
