Of course, there’s far more content to Ground Zeroes than a frantic speedrun. Yet if you just want to blitz through the game as quickly as possible for leaderboard bragging rights, our video and guides will help you get one hell of a speedy slither on.

Oh, and naturally… SPOILERS AHEAD

While the above video gives you a good idea of how to blitz through Camp Omega in a respectable time, we thought it only right to provide a short(ish) written walkthrough to assist the seconds-shaving cause.

For starters, try not to avoid shooting guards unless absolutely necessary. While it’s a good idea to tranquillise the first watchtower marine on the cliff with a well placed first-person headshot (use R1), sneaking past with nary a bullet fired is often your best bet. After you’ve climbed the small rocky crevice to creep past the first tower, keep hugging the fence on the right and you’ll eventually hit an outpost that leads down to the POW camp Chico is being held in.

From the outpost, head down the cliff in Snake’s crouched sneaking pose – unless you’re certain there are no guards in the immediate vicinity, you should always use this as the default stance for getting from A to B. Make your way around the right of the camp’s fence until you reach a watchtower. Climb this, and you can drop straight down into the encampment. Chico’s cage is the one in the furthest right hand corner. Just remember to skip cutscenes by hitting the upper left hand section of the touchpad to bring up the pause menu.

Now, while we call in two separate evac choppers in the video, you could actually just signal a single whirlybird once you’ve rescued Paz. As her position never changes, you don’t need the audio file Chico gives you to find her position. If you’re using this strategy, take Chico down to the extraction point at bottom of the cliff and leave him there. You’ll then need to revisit this location with Paz so you can extract both of the prisoners at the same time.

Regardless of whether you choose to evac Chico before heading for Paz, you’re still headed in the same direction: a boiler room deep in the bowels of the base. Retrace your steps to the outpost up the hill from the POW camp and turn right (though be careful as there will be a couple of guards loafing around). There should now be a truck on the side of the road. If you’re quick, you can hop in this and it will take you into the heart of the base, only a minute’s back-breaking sneak away from Paz’ location. Make sure you remain crouched in the truck, mind, or there’s a danger you’ll be spotted.

Once the truck goes through the large metal doors that’s your cue to jump out. Crawl around the building to the left and creep under the pipes. Once you get to the corner, tranq or sneak past any guards in the vicinity (you also have to stay vigilant for security cameras). Keep following this path past the area with the containers and it will eventually slope down into a industrial-looking room. Take out the guards in this lower area, turn right and you’ll find Paz in the corner of the next room. Skip the cutscene, then prepare for the hardest section of the speedrun.

Go back the way you came, but instead of turning left towards the room where you most likely tranqued a couple of guards, go straight ahead and up a slope that leads out of the bunker. Once you reach the exit with Paz on your shoulders, make sure you briefly drop her so you can take out the nearby security camera. Dispatch the nearby marine and continue on with Paz until you see a red door. Once you head through this you’ll have a couple of options.

For the sake of chasing a non-lethal, no alarms S rank, you want to avoid evacuating from the central, high risk chopper landing zones. Instead, you either want to retrace your steps and make it back to the cliff where you left Chico or you can follow the video and stick to the wall to the right of the nearby APCs. If you choose the latter option, you’re headed for the extraction point on the cliff where you began. This route takes you past a couple of searchlights and a few guards, so be careful.

Assuming you’ve chosen the latter, keep hugging the walls to the right of the armoured vehicles, follow this wall all the way round, then cut across the open area and head for the gap in the nearby fence. Go through this gap, head down the slope and make your way past the tents. By this point, you should have called in the chopper for the extraction point on the cliff. Follow the iDroid marker as it takes you back to the fenced area by the first watchtower. If there are guards in the area, tranq them, put Paz down and open the nearby gate door with triangle. Once you’ve done this, it’s a simple job of running up the hill with your traitorous quarry and escaping the base via chopper.

If all has gone to plan, you should be looking at a sub-20 minute playthrough. Now pat yourself on the back, take a hearty breath and hunker down for a substantial wait until Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain ships.
