Gearbox has announced that the Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack, first of four DLC packs for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , will release on November 11, 2014. This pack features a new playable character, one of Jack’s surgically-altered look-alikes. It has been known for a while that this would be the first add-on character, though the release date was still up in the air until recently. Players who paid attention to the ECHO recorders hidden around the real Jack’s office in the game will already know this fake Jack’s backstory. The Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack’s Jack is going to be another pet-using class, though his pets are doppelgangers of himself. The announcement hints at some other amusingly off-the-wall powers, such as getting buffs every time he picks up money. I can’t wait to see how this new class plays. From the perspective of a Borderlands 2 player, there are a couple of interesting things about this release. The Borderlands 2 add-on characters, Gaige the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho, were released outside the Season Pass system, leading to a lot of complaints from fans who were upset that they’d have to shell out more money beyond that $29.99 if they wanted all the content. Some were also upset that they had to pay extra for content that was already “included” in the initial download, though that complaint never made a lot of sense to me. It seems Gearbox has learned from that mistake. But on the other side of the coin, the four DLC expansions that did make up the Borderlands 2 Season Pass each provided hours of entirely new game content. With Jack for one, and Aurelia the Baroness for another, we already know that at least two and possibly three of the four Pre-Sequel Season Pass expansions will be new characters with whom to play over the exact same content — which will have already gotten pretty old by the time we’ve played the four existing characters through it. But then, Gearbox could very well release even more extra DLC beyond that, as Borderlands 2 did for the holidays. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. The Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC (Win/Mac/Linux) and will cost $9.99 on its own, but is included as part of the $29.99 Season Pass package.
