Satoru Iwata to skip E3 for health reasons CEO will still appear in digital events Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata will not attend E3 this year for unspecified health reasons. The company confirmed to Polygon that Iwata will still appear in Nintendo's streamed E3 presentations and will carry out the rest of his duties as normal. "He's been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles," Nintendo vice president of corporate affairs Cindy Gordon said. "Please understand that it is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo's activities at the show." Nintendo has elected to forego a traditional press conference at E3 for the second year in a row. Instead, it plans to host a Nintendo Digital Event scheduled to broadcast Tuesday at 9am PT (5pm UK time) and various smaller programs throughout the show.
