Microsoft has announced that June has seen a "strong spike in interest" in Xbox One and the new console options available to customers, most notably the release of the $399 Kinect-less system on June 9th. In fact, the advent of the Kinect-free Xbox One has seen sales of the console more than double in the US compared to sales in May, according to internal data at Microsoft.

The platform holder also believes that hype for upcoming console exclusives like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive being shown at E3 have helped drive Xbox One sales during the last month. New instalments in third-party franchises like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty are also credited.

New IP like Evolve and Destiny is also given a mention in Microsoft's announcement, as well as the impending release of Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox One. Whatever the case, it seems that dropping Kinect as a bundled peripheral has been a positive step for Microsoft in boosting Xbox One sales.
