    'Project Morpheus' VR tech specs detailed

    Sony has confirmed a short list of official tech specs for its just-announced 'Project Morpheus' VR headset for PS4.

    Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida revealed the long-rumored device during a GDC presentation titled 'Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment' on Tuesday.

    The specs released represent the current state of the Morpheus dev kit, which Yoshida said during the presentation was "by no means the final unit".

    Here's the official specs list:

    Component: Processor unit, head-mounted unit
    Display Method: LCD
    Panel Size: 5 inches
    Panel Resolution: 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye)
    Field of View: 90 degrees
    Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope
    Connection interface: HDMI + USB
    Function: 3D audio, Social Screen


    During the presentation, Sony also detailed a number of other hardware attributes, including:


    - 90 degree field of view
    - 1000Hz tracking
    - 3 meter working volume
    - Full 360 degrees
    - Supports forward prediction
    - DualShock 4 and PS Move with the same camera
    - True spacial sound, synthesized by stimulating the human ear.
    - Highly Adjustable
    - Comfortable for Prolonged use
    - Direct on-board audio jack for headphones.
    - 'Social Screen feature' mirrors experience onto TV (Allows for unique asymmetric gameplay)
    - No weight placed on nose or cheeks.

    Project Morpheus will bring full stereoscopic VR gaming to PS4, Sony confirmed on Tuesday. Release date and pricing details were left undisclosed, with the firm only willing to say that it would be released "as soon as possible and for as low as possible".
