Ubisoft has announced that there will be no Assassin’s Creed game in the main series this year, confirming industry rumours that first circulated back in early January.Speaking in “A Message From the Assassin’s Creed Team” published on the Ubi Blog, the devs said “we… are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016.”“Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback,” continued the post. “We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise.”“We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.”In early January it was rumoured that not only would the main Assassin’s Creed series skip 2016, but it would return in 2017 with an Egypt setting. Codenamed Empire, the game would be the first in a series of three direct sequels, with subsequent entries set in Rome and Greece.Ubisoft has yet to reveal any details about Assassin’s Creed: Empire.
This is probably a good idea. They definitely need to work on the series a bit and come out with a great game next year. I have lost track of AC after unity as I feel that they are released to regularly.
