There's a lot more nuances that go into the farming mechanics of the game, but Markus Persson aka "Notch" recently announced that there could be changes coming to this aspect of the game. The developer said in a recent tweet, that the team is "working on some new farming options". It's unclear if these option will have much of an inpact on the way that the game plays at this time, because the developer also noted that "It's very silly".
