Spotify is doing to Microsoft’s Groove Music what it did to Sony’s Music Unlimited.

After launching on Xbox One back in August, Spotify is now replacing Groove Music full-time. Microsoft has revealed that it’s killing off Groove Music.

Beginning December 31, the Music Pass subscription service, as well as individual music purchases through the store, will be discontinued. The Groove Music app itself will remain, but only as a player for local or One Drive-stored music. The free streaming option is also getting axed.

The new partnership with Spotify allows Music Pass subscribers to migrate their curated playlists and music collections to Spotify. The Groove Music app will be updated on Windows 10, and Xbox One sometime next week.

Existing Music Pass customers have until January 31, 2018 to make the transition. Some customers are eligible for a 60-day free trial of Spotify Premium, and you can consult this FAQ to learn more.

Microsoft will be issuing refunds from December 31, but you may want to contact them directly to see where you stand.
