Help! I am thinking about Modding, or whatever it's called, my Xbox so I can play burned games.

I strongly prefer a way that is safe, and I would like a guide that wouldn't get me lost and would have everything well explained. Please help, My Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z has gotten that permanent ring of death on the disc, and I do not want to wait for GameStop to get their stock of it back. Please, quick response. I'm SORT of, or basically a total noob at opening up consoles. Oh and btw, I have the old stupid PHAT (I think that's what they are called) old white Xbox.
