Halo made the shift from video game to cross-media franchise long ago, and that's not going to change moving forward.

Kiki Wolfkill, executive producer at 343 Industries, discussed the future of Halo in a recent Microsoft profile. The series will move forward as a game, a show, a graphic novel, etc., but not in a way that feels unnecessary.
"We will never do anything that doesn't move the universe forward," Wolfkill said. "We won't do something for the sake of being in a certain medium."

She continued, "Our next step is to try and make the connections between the game and its linear entertainment aspects even more experiential. I want to transform how people experience 'Halo' in their living rooms and on their PCs...With Xbox One, we have the opportunity to allow people to experience all these different modes of storytelling — game, television, even graphic novels – in the same place and without friction."
Wolfkill said her focus isn't on the game itself, but rather on the expanded universe around it. She recently worked on the live-action online series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. Check out the IGN review.
The first trailer for Halo: Nightfall, an upcoming live-action series produced by renowned director Ridley Scott, was recently released. In the video below, IGN editors Ryan McCaffrey and Brian Albert break it down frame by frame.
