The Halo 5: Guardians Beta was updated on Friday January 2nd with the addition of a new game mode, new maps and a new weapon called the Hydra MLRS.

The new game mode is called Breakout, which allows your Spartan just one life per round. The first team to wipe out all of its opponents takes the round and the winner is the first team to win five rounds. Breakout can be played on two maps: Crossfire and Trench.

The two new maps have been added to the Slayer playlist and they're called Regret and Eden. Both are variants of maps that appeared during the first week of the beta. Regret is a remix of Truth and Eden is a remix of Empire. Battle Rifle starts are now available in Slayer too.

The new weapon, the Hydra MLRS, is an airburst rapid-fire missile launcher capable of locking onto enemies. It's the UNSC equivalent of the Covenant's plasma launcher, basically. The Hydra won a public vote, triumphing over an unnamed rocket launcher.

But then you probably already knew this. The update has been live for Halo 5: Guardians Beta users for a few days now. Forgive us as we emerge from our Christmas cryosleep. And Happy New Year!
