Gran Turismo 6 Officialy Announced

    Kazunori Yamauchi has announced Gran Turismo 6 is in development and will be releases this holiday season on PS3. A demo will be released in July to coincide with the launch of the new GT Academy season.

    Announced during the game’s 15th anniversary event, Yamauchi said the game’s engine has been “renewed, we’ll be cleaning it up, making it smoother for the future.” He noted the rendering engine specifically has been revamped.

    The Physics Engine is revamped, it contains a new suspension system, tire and aerodynamics modelling has been reworked as well. A variety of “Edge Effects”, the chemical reactions between the real world and the virtual world, are also planned for GT6.

    Also, collaborations between various automotive manufacturers and brands crossing different industries will be revealed gradually across the next six months.

    Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them brand new. There will also be regular additions of new tracks set to be made available online. The game will also contian 200 more cars than GT5, with 1200 available at release and more available after launch.

    It will have new tracks released every month as DLC.

    Players will be able to create their own racing series and championships to compete online and they will have more control over online events. This will all be accomplished using new course maker features, and scenery can be expanded several tens of square miles.

    “It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream.

    “We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6.

    “The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo.”

    A new user interface, will allow players to focus on quick responses and short load times, and balances directional key operation and touch operation.

    This is due to an app connecting the experience between users PlayStation, phone, tablet and PC.

    More announcements will be made regarding the racer at E3 and gamescom, and at the same time the PS3 version of GT6 launches, the aforementioned mobile version and web application version will release as well.
