Try reformatting the usb through your computer as it sounds like the usb has fecked up or corrupted redo format and then re configure again...
have you configured the usb through xbox if not ur save wont show up once you configure it just drag a save from your harddrive to ur usb stick...

should be ok as the newest firmware is 1.4.4 which the card supports aswell,but i think that upsate is for dsi xl not 100% sure.
works fine on the 1.4.3 U and also works on the 1.4.4 no need to update according to alot of sites
