World of Tanks, the massively multiplayer online free-to-play game from Wargaming feels like it's been around for a while. It's been in beta for the best part of a year now, but it seems a proper release might finally be on the horizon.

In a post on the World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition website, Wargaming.net have announced that the beta servers are to be taken offline on the 29th of January at 7am UTC for a few days "in preparation for the final release".

The good news is, if you participated in the beta, you'll be granted early access to the release version of the game with any tank rewards retained, but any in game progress such as earned tanks will be reset. Going forward, the in-game purchases will be implemented and retained along with Achievements and Avatars. Players have been told to "stay tuned" for more information on when exactly that'll happen.

Wargaming.net also offer their thanks to beta participants, saying "Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your diligent contributions, feedback, and patience. It was only with your help and dedication that World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition could realize its full potential!" The team also ask that players visit the 360 Edition forum if they have any further questions.

Have you played the World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition beta, and what do you make of it?
