    You Will Need

    XEXTOOL
    A Copy Of Cmd Prompt
    an Untouched default.xex
    all in the same folder

    open your xex tool folder
drop your .xex file or .dll file into that folder

    for this i`ll use default.xex

    drag xextool into cmd window
    now type/paste this xextool -c u -e u default.xex

    click enter

    once it says

    default.xex is retail unencrypted uncompressed

    close xex tool

    now drop default.xex into HXD

    hit CTRL and F

    TEXT search for
    health
    ammo
    clip
    reload
    player

    if no results
    HEX search for these

    68 00 65 00 61 00 6C 00 74 00 68 <<<<<thats health

    61 00 6D 00 6D 00 6F <<<<<<<<<<thats ammo

    63 00 6C 00 69 00 70 <<<<<thats clip

    72 00 65 00 6C 00 6F 00 61 00 64 <<thats reload

    70 00 6C 00 61 00 79 00 65 00 72 <<<<<thats player

after you have done your edits
    close hxd
    save file
it will save ya default and a default .bak remember we dont touch .bak files unless your modded files fucked
stick ya files on jtag and see if it loads

treat all .xex and dll files for the same searches

sometimes in hex and files you will find
    more things to look for

this will apply to certain .cfg files and certain .dll files

    drop your file into HXD

    for cod games search for
"onlinegame 1;xblive_privatematch 0" thats just a ruff search for most cod games

everything between the """""" symbol is read

    "what dvar ya want here"

if ya overwrite the " you break the file it wont load

remember allways look out for the 2E hex bytes before overwriting

cod files the command ^5 or ^ whatever number is a colour code
    ^1 = red
    ^2 = green
    ^3 = yellow
    ^4 = blue
    ^5 = light blue
    ^6 = purple
    ^7 = white
^8 is a color that changes depending what level you are on.
    ^9 = grey

allways try keep filesize the same
try not to add or remove bytes

    and allways remember
dont give up cos sometimes moddin it gets annoyin just plod thru n beat it lol

it a way it is like a dos window in pc but cmd means command prompt in windows. if you go to start then run and type cmd you will get your command prompt terminal.

great job with some more great info for those wanting to dabble some more in learning some of the more basic mods. definately a good jumping point.

make sure you navigate to the parent folder that has xextool in it and i personally put the .exe at the end as well

    xextool.exe -c u -e u default.xex (decrypt/uncompress)
    xextool.exe -c c -e e default.xex (encrypt/compress)

Could someone post some examples of what a value such as ammo could be changed to? Pasting the hex given for ammo above and converting it to decimal, I get 27303540899512431, which obviously is not an in-game ammo value. Or are the zero's spacers that represent the end of one gun and start of another? Ex. Gun 1[61] 00 Gun 2[6D] 00 etc.. And is it the 00's I change? Or the 61 (for example). Do these ammo values affect the type of ammo (such as swapping ammo from one gun to another)? Can it be used for infinite ammo? No reload? Also, can I even use a hex editor or do I need a tool like IDA like in this tut: http://www.xbox360xperts.com/forums/index.php?/topic/60-tuthow-to-decompile-and-modify-an-xbox-360-executablexex/
I'm sure I sound like a total tard right now...just trying to make sense of it. I found some similar values in my THP8 .xex file: http://www.xpgamesav...ressednow-what/
But not sure what to do with them...so many questions... haha

Great tut, just a question though, whats the best way to learn how to read hexadecimal. I no there probably isn't an easy way but I figure it's gotta happen sometime.
