A petition urging Rockstar Games to release Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC has collected more than 650,000 signatures.

The petition, which cites the power and prevalence of PC gaming and the array of mods created for Grand Theft Auto 4's PC version, began in late 2012 and had attracted about 570,000 signatures as of October.

Rockstar vice president Sam Houser said in November 2012 that a PC version of the game was "up for consideration" among other platforms, a message the company has not deviated from since.

GTA 4's PC version hit the market seven months after the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions. A similar time frame would put GTA 5's PC release around late spring or early summer 2014.

The latest entry in Rockstar's open-world crime series generated $1 billion in just three days of availability on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Since then, the studio's focus has largely been on stabilizing and expanding Grand Theft Auto Online, though it has plans for "substantial" single-player DLC launching in 2014.
