“Dead Rising” is a series of open-world survival horror video games created by Capcom. Its first game entitled “Dead Rising” follows the story of the photojournalist, Frank West, who ends up trapped in a shopping mall in fictional Willamette, Colorado. There, he must defend himself against zombies, psychos, rescue fellow survivors and stay alive while trying to figure out the truth behind the incident. Upon its release, the game received generally positive reviews, according to Capcom, the game has shipped 500,000 copies in its first month after its release and a million copies worldwide by the end of 2006.
The game spawned a sequel in 2010 entitled, “Dead Rising 2,” featuring a new protagonist, Chuck Greene. The second game allows players to manufacture their own customized weapons by combining items. It also features a multiplayer mode. As of Feb. 2, 2011, Capcom stated that the title has sold more than 2.2 million copies worldwide.
Moreover, a third game, “Dead Rising 3,” was recently released last year. Players now control new protagonist Nick Ramos. Combining weapons have been made more convenient as they can now be made without the need of a workbench unlike “Dead Rising 2.” It also allows players to create “Combo Vehicles” as well as a two player cooperative gameplay, where the primary player controls Nick and the second player assumes the role of ****, a trucker who survives the outbreak. On Jan. 22, 2014, Capcom announced that the game has sold one million copies and as of Mar. 31, 2014, 1.2 million copies.
