In the first of a series detailing weaponry in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Capcom has detailed the standard sword and shield combination. The Sword and Shield weapon set is the first combo available to players when they set out, and is the most "well-balanced" weapon in the game, according to Capcom. "What the Sword and Shield lacks in strength and reach, it certainly makes up with speed and versatility," the blog post reads. "Because it's such a light weapon type, you can still move around with it in your hands without sacrificing too much of your running or swimming speed."
