Trouble updating from older version

Hello.

I am having trouble updating from version 9199. When I boot my xbox with the updsvr_standalone_v1 I get the normal booting sound (not long enough for picture to show), followed by the E71 error message. But if I boot it normally I can play games from my external harddrive and so forth. I can also play games from the internal harddrive, so no troubles there either.

I didn't do the jtag myself, so I don't know further details other than I have a Falcon version (2008).

Am I missing something obvious here, or can I simply not update my xbox? I would like to update to the latest version, if possible.

 

Thank you for the tip. Looks like I need to read up on the procedure a bit before trying it.
