The Elder Scrolls: Legends, the strategy card game based on Bethesda’s classic series of role-playing games, is out today on iOS and Android. The app is a free download, and includes the option to purchase packs of collectible cards.

Legends was initially launched for PC in March after an extensive beta period. The game came to iPad shortly thereafter.

The CCG differentiates itself from others in the genre by featuring multiple “lanes” where cards can be played. Many direct-attack card games, like Magic: The Gathering from Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard’s Hearthstone, have a single playspace. But Legends has two, one on the left side and one on the right. Players must decide if they want to spread their units defensively between the two lanes or double down on a single lane and attempt to do more damage.

Bethesda built the game with the help of Paul Dennen, the creative director at Dire Wolf Digital and a veteran tabletop game designer. One of the game’s big internal champions at Bethesda is vice president Pete Hines, who is himself a veteran Magic: The Gatheringplayer. You can read more in out interview from last year’s PAX West.
