SEGA Japan has announced that it will be discontinuing the Xbox Live Arcade version of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on October 30th, meaning you’ll no longer be able to purchase it in a matter of days.Quite why SEGA Japan are pulling the two Sonic titles is currently unknown, however, it’s not just the Xbox version, they're also pulling the Wii version as well. That said, the PlayStation version seems to be safe at the moment, as does Sonic the Hedgehog 3.Speculation surrounding the announcement to pull both games is falling into two camps: the first, which suggests the licenses are expiring, which would explain why Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is safe, as SEGA owns all that music, whereas they don’t with Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The second camp suggests, or rather hopes, that SEGA is pulling them to replace them with the revered Taxman ports, created by Christian Whitehead, which hit mobile devices in 2013.Of course, that’s all speculation and hearsay, so take that with a pinch of salt. All you need to know for now is that Sonic 1 and 2 will only be available to purchase for a few more days.
