The Project Cars release date has reportedly been delayed to March 17, 2015 in the Americas and March 20 in Europe.

Slightly Mad Studios development director Andy Garton is said to have broken the news on a private forum for backers of the crowd-funded racer, ahead of the release of a public statement on the matter.

NowGamer has posted what's alleged to be a screengrab of the forum post in question, in which Garton cites the studio's desire to release a more polished game in a less competitive launch window next year.

SixthAxis also claims to have obtained a copy of an upcoming press release confirming the delay, which is said to include the following statement from Slightly Mad studio head Ian Bell:

Our goal has always been to deliver a landmark title that encompasses the wishes and desires of racing fans from all around the world; something with features and content powered by the community that provide a truly unforgettable and pioneering experience.

Whilst a tough decision to make, the change in release date allows the game the greatest chance of success and visibility, and the opportunity to polish the game even further to the high standards that both ourselves and our community demand and expect. We're eager for you all to see what we've been working on in just a few months.
Only last month, Slightly Mad Studios and distributor Bandai Namco announced a Project Cars release date of November 18 across the Americas and November 21 in the UK on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A Wii U version is also due for release in 2015.

A UK representative for Bandai Namco told CVG today that the company currently has no information to share on the reported delay.

Project Cars missed its original 2013 launch window as Xbox 360 and PS3 releases were canned in favour of new-gen ones, along with the addition of SteamOS and Oculus Rift versions.
