How to jailbreak any iDevice on iOS 8-8.x Spoiler 1: Download the new Pangu 1.2.1 tool for Windows or Pangu 1.0 tool for Mac (<--- Official Pangu.io links) 2: Turn off Find my iPhone in Settings.app>iCloud Spoiler 3: Make a backup of your device in iTunes. Just do it, it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for this jailbreak, as it still is a bit glitchy. Spoiler 4: Download the 8.1 firmware for your iDevice from http://www.ipswdownloader.com, or from iTunes itself. Spoiler 5: Restore your iDevice with iTunes by going to the device tab in iTunes, hold shift, and click restore. Then choose the .IPSW file that you downloaded. Spoiler 6: Once your device is successfully restored to the stock version of iOS 8.1, go through the setup, and when asked, restore your backup from iTunes. 7: Now open the Pangu tool that you downloaded. I don't have a Mac, so I don't know if the layout is any different from the PC version, so I will only be using PC screenshots. Spoiler 8: Insert your iDevice and click Jailbreak. (My iPhone is already jailbroken, so the Jailbreak button is replace with "ReJailbreak") Spoiler 9: Make another backup if you aren't 100% sure of your last one. Remember, the jailbreak isn't without it's problems, so making another backup of your iDevice on the iOS 8.1 firmware is recommended. Pangu will give you one last warning before proceeding. Spoiler 10: After you are satisfied with your backup and you're 100% sure that you have Find my iPhone turned off, click "Jailbreak" again, then click "Already did" on the next screen. WARNING! YOUR iDEVICE WILL GO INTO RESTORE MODE, THEN SETUP MODE! DO NOT TOUCH YOUR iDEVICE UNLESS PROMPTED TO ON YOUR COMPUTER BY THE PANGU TOOL! Fusion Tutorials Spoiler Install unsigned apps Spoiler 1: Add Karen's Pineapple Repo to your list of sources using the link above. Spoiler 2: Search in Cydia for "AppSync Unified" Spoiler 3: Install "AppSync Unified" from Karen's Pineapple Repo. There's no longer a need to use the beta version, as Unified has been updated. Only install the version from Karen's Repo to get the correct version and to ensure your device remains free of issues. Spoiler You can now install your own unsigned apps to your device without having to be a part of Apple's official developer program. While AppSync may be used for piracy, neither myself, XPGamesaves, nor Karen (angelxwind) support or promote piracy. A tutorial will not be made for the sole purpose of obtaining free applications. Support the developers and make an official purchase if you like an app. Karen's stance on using AppSync Unified for piracy Spoiler iOS 8.1.1 has been released! How to protect your jailbreak! Spoiler Now that iOS 8.1.1 is out, it's only a matter of time before the 8.1 signing window closes and things get a lot more tense. Here's what you need to know in order to stay on 8.1, happy and jailbroken. Can't I just restore my phone if I mess something up? Yes, but only to iOS 8.1.1, which isn't jailbreakable at present. Once Apple stops signing iOS 8.1, you cannot restore to it, even if you have the IPSW on your computer already. OK, but isn't there a way to fake signing? With SHSH blobs or something? SHSH blobs aren't relevant for modern devices. There's no way to defeat Apple's cryptography head-on; you need a very, very low-level exploit on the device itself in order to bypass it. Think about tiptoeing around a giant steel wall as opposed to just trying to break through it. We haven't found any such low-level exploits since the iPhone 4, and it's very unlikely that any more will ever be found. Fine. I get it. What do I need to know? What should I install? 1: Install OpenSSH. This is by far the most important thing you can do to preserve your jailbreak. Not only does it allow full filesystem access, but it allows you to run Terminal commands remotely; this is something Apple File Conduit 2 does not allow. Install AFC2 if you want, but always install OpenSSH along with it. And remember to change your root and mobile passwords after doing so. 2: Add Karen's Pineapple Repo (cydia.angelxwind.net) and install Mikoto and NO PLS RECOVERY. Several buttons in Settings.app will cause a bootloop if you use them while jailbroken; Mikoto disables them. It also disables OTA software updates, so you don't have to worry about losing a gigabyte of space to the 8.1.1 install file. Plus it does some other cool things. (YouTube backgrounding, anyone?) NO PLS RECOVERY prevents iTunes from kicking your device into Recovery Mode, so you don't have to worry about accidentally clicking "Restore" or "Update." DFU Mode is not affected by this tweak and is always available. 3: If you are using Upscale or LittleBrother, install Cycript. You'll need this to manually revert your screen's resolution if you screw it up. Also, if you use Upscale, don't mess around with custom resolutions unless you absolutely, 100% know that the resolution you want to use is verified to work. 4: Install iLEX RAT (cydia.myrepospace.com/iLEXiNFO). If you ever find yourself in a bootloop and out of options, SSH in and run the command "rat". Ideally, it will remove all of your Cydia tweaks and return your phone to fresh, just-jailbroken settings. Only use it as a last resort, because then it can't hurt and might help. Is there anything I shouldn't do anymore? 1: Don't mess around in iFile or Filza. Do not open iFile or Filza without a specific goal in mind that you understand completely. Do not delete files to free up space if you do not understand everything about those files and what their function is. Not everything in a "Caches" folder is necessarily useless. 2: Do not modify system files if you don't have to. Try to find a tweak that does what you want. If you do end up modifying things, always always always make a backup. What if I end up in a bootloop? 1: Try booting into No-Substrate Mode. Hold the Volume Up button while the phone is booting. Once you're booted into No-Substrate Mode, uninstall the problematic package via Cydia. 2: If No-Substrate Mode isn't working, perform a hard reset before trying again. Hold the Home and Power buttons until the screen turns off, then hold the Power button to turn your device back on. 3: Try both of these things multiple times. I've had a few bootloops that didn't respond until the second or third time I tried booting in No-Substrate Mode. 10 more minutes of cursing at your phone could save your jailbreak. If you have any more suggestions, put them in the comments and I'll edit this post to add them to it!
Cheers lad, I just updated it with some sources, and I'm getting ready to include some awesome tweaks!
I've added all that I can think to right now. If anyone has any requests for a tutorial, or any questions, I will make an FAQ and Tutorials spoiler as well. Post your questions and tutorial ideas below!
The jailbreak itself is, but the process isn't. I had to restore my 5s twice to get it to work right.
