Great tut BEZZA. I personally would like to finally like to watch some good movies on my PC now! Thank you. :king:
I have just set mine up also over the past few days but a bit differently, I hated having to go into the other room to start streaming a movie so i set it up as a media server through DLNA. Spoiler Just a quick pic taken from my phone This is how i did it: Download PLEX server for your PC and setup your content Download Media Player on yor XboxOne (with the latest update to Media Player it has now added mkv support to the XboxOne) If all is setup correctly you should now be able to control your media through DLNA on your XboxOne, Setting up this way will make a seamless integration into PLEX for Xbox with a PLEXpass or when it becomes free. If you have not checked out PLEX yet on your PC i would recommend it, I have basically setup a full media center to every room in the house lol, works with any hardware that supports DLNA.
nice feral ive only ever used plex on a dedicated server will have to check it out as it would be nice to control from the console its self i have some movie folders etc showing on xbox one but nothing in them yet may try to add some movie files see if they show you still need to pay for plex ???
To use the server on your PC and control your media over your own network is free, using through Media Player on XboxOne is free, however if you want the full Media Center experience on your XboxOne you will need a PLEXpass which costs a subscription fee, If you have a PLEXpass you can also broadcast your media over the internet to any device anywhere that you connect to it with a Pin. On another note, you can do this without PLEX by setting up media sharing on your PC and setting up your shared folders, I just find with using PLEX its more visually pleasing as it downloads all meta-data (artwork, proper naming of movies, year etc.).
I have Plex on my system and yes if you do want the full experience you have to pay a fee. If you want to stream all of your media: videos, music and photos then a FREE alternative is one I also use...a program called Universal Media Server. This program used is based off of the old PS3 Media Server. It can be used on all of your gaming systems using the existing media programs. I personally use it with my Xbox One, 360, PS4, my nephew's PS3, my Amazon Firetv and a Google ADT-1 Android TV box. It has versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Oh and before I forget Merry Christmas! http://www.universalmediaserver.com/
