GRAND THEFT AUTO GOES HIGH ROLLER One of the most iconic games of the 21st century has to be Grand Theft Auto. Featuring elaborate missions that see you pursue a rags to riches dream via an array of unorthodox and usually illegal means, it’s become a global sensation that has sold over 150 million units worldwide. The publishers Rockstar Games are forever on the hunt for ways to increase the lifespan of the game. And with the latest update set to include a gambling system, it looks set to become an even more lucrative venture for the franchise. High Roller Update There have been plenty of rumours that the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PC will be accompanied by a High Roller update for next gen consoles. This is thought to be in the form of downloadable content that will open up the game to deliver a range of gambling options and a lottery system. This could now allow Rockstar Games to enter the potentially lucrative market established by the big Black Diamond Casino brand, to satisfy a very real thirst amongst gamers for a realistic casino experience. As Grand Theft Auto was the top selling game in South Africa for the PC, it is thought that this update will introduce gamers to the world of real money gaming, and the trend will increase with each successive update. A Trip to the Races Not content with staking claim to the casinos, the Grand Theft Auto: High Roller update also features other gambling activities. These include a horse betting system where your avatar can spend time at the races which will add another sport to the GTA roster alongside basketball, tennis, golf and sports car driving. Furthermore, it is thought that the update will also include the first lottery system to be used in the game as a way for players to earn money, which will add another dynamic to the Grand Theft Auto economy. Other Updates Rockstar have been keen to keep up an impressive record of downloadable updates to ensure that its gamers are permanently entertained. And with the High Roller update expected to strike on 14 April, many are speculating what could follow. It is expected that there will be a much greater emphasis on updating the games for mobile users.
