Gage Garmo, right, and his mother, left. Eminem, whom we know to be that violent, me-against-the-world person, recently showed his softer side to terminally ill fan from Detroit. Gage Garmo, 17, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive and deadly form of bone cancer, his freshman year of high school. After going through countless treatments, such as chemo therapy and leg amputation, he was told he had less than a week to live. The Rainbow Connection, a Rochester based group helped set up a meeting between Gage and his idol Eminem, who lives just 20 minutes away from the Garmo family, on Sunday, January 11th, in which they talked of Hip Hop and football. "Even though Gage was very medicated at the time, he sat up and spoke to Eminem, which is something he hadn't done in several days," McCarter said of the meeting. "He passed away the next day." The singer spent about 40 minutes with Gage, said Ingrid Todt, wish director at the Rainbow Connection. "It was an absolute honor to witness that interaction between Gage and Eminem," she said. The tag "#GarmoStrong" has swept rapidly throughout social media due to Eminem's stardom and celebrity.
