Why do you recommend horizon? It's known to corrupt saves, and 360rev has an identical tool which works excellently.

Not quite sure what you're asking. Do you mean that if you mod the single player campaign of game, will it mess up your multiplayer?
Are you sure you've done everything in this tutorial, specifically the configuring your USB part? That's the only thing it could be.
When I opened it I got the minecraft.exe has stopped working error. There is no fix for it. I don't know what you could've done, though.

Sounds like you need the update. Are you prompted to download anything when you start playing? Does your game have pistons yet?
