Nintendo's Wii U has been given a significant price cut by supermarket chain Asda.

The retailer has slashed the cost of the 8GB basic bundle by £50 to £199, while the premium Nintendo Land package has been priced at £249.

Online vendor ShopTo has also reduced the price of the basic bundle to less than £200 to help stimulate sales,

The news follows calls from UK retailers including Grainger Games, Tesco and Sainsbury's for a price reduction from Nintendo itself and more "killer" software to combat dwindling sales.

Nintendo recently lowered its Wii U sales forecast after lower than expected festive sales, cutting the number of anticipated Wii U console sales from 5.5 million units to 4 million units by the end of the financial year.

Despite the setback, Nintendo has ruled out a Wii U price cut in the near future.

The company recently announced a host of new Wii U games as part of a Nintendo Direct conference.

Highlights include two Legend of Zelda games, including a Wind Waker remake, and new Mario Kart and 3D Super Mario games.

You think Nindendo would be the best if they just caught up to the graphics abilities of the latest consoles? They do have interesting features but it just doesn't feel like it used to when the Snes was around at least to me anyway

Last Nintendo product I played was a Gamecube and before that a N64, can't beat nothing then running around on super mario :) the original zelda & starfox 64, and you have got a point about the graphics issues if they did catch up to the PS4 or 360 level some of there stuff would be amazing.
