Xbox One and Xbox 360 effected:

    Game DVR
    Friends Lists

Here's what the latest Xbox Live service alert does say: "Thanks for your patience during this time. We'll provide an update for you as soon as we can." And here's what it doesn't, but should, say: "Brethren! There has been a Great Disturbance in the Farce, but our Mighty Creator-Engineers have taken up their Pistons of Ineffability, and will shortly wreak a terrible vengeance on the instigators of this offence." Sigh, QA representatives just don't seem to put their hearts into things these days.

The alert may stop you doing one or all of the following while playing games on Xbox 360 and Xbox One: "Accessing all game features"; "Capturing game videos"; "Joining other Xbox Live members in online games"; "Managing friends lists and tracking what friends are doing"; "Posting game performance or viewing the performance of other Xbox Live members". In other words: batten down the hatches! Charge the Ion Cannon! Load and prime all Space Hamsters!

"So you're unable to post stats to leaderboards on your Xbox One Console, right?" notes an update, posted 8.45am this morning UK time (about two hours ago). "Well, rest assured that we are investigating the issue right now. Additionally, if your Xbox 360 Console is getting stuck on a black screen when trying to launch games or apps, hang in there! We are working toward a fix for this too." Oh come on, Microsoft - where's the sparkle? I think what you're trying to say is that you have consulted the Oracle and are now engaging in telekinetic combat with the Avatars of Entropy.

While you wait, why not read this piece about Microsoft's Xbox Live Operations Centre? It is awash with credible insights, awash I tell you. There's no epic language, though, because apparently I'm the only one who cares.

This makes sense now why the Titanfall DLC took a whole day to download.
