Some interesting things are happening in the PS4 modding scene. Cturt has updated his Github with new information on PS4 kernel heap overflow.
While the article written by Cturt is very detailed, the essence of it is that we are ever closer to seeing modding on the PS4 for the end user.

The Kernel code execution which Cturt has detailed, allows almost full access over the PS4 system. "I've described in my previous article a few things you can experiment with: dumping the kernel, disabling CPU write protection to make patches to kernel code, reading and writing memory of other processes, privilege escalation, breaking out of FreeBSD jail, escaping sandbox and gaining full access to the file system" says Cturt.

Interestingly he also states that it is possible to decrypt PS4 game saves, and dump the consoles registry. This certainly means we are drawing closer to seeing gamesave modding on the PS4.
Cturt points out that with the recent release of fail0verflow's PS4 Linux port, kernel exploits, things are much more interesting. He seems to think that will see something for developers and end users very soon.

A modded starter (megamule) for Dark Souls II would be awesome! I wouldn't bother playing with it online - just for that sweet offline revenge!

So when could we expect an actual program that allows the laymen to play with all this fun stuff?

its a nice thought but i doubt it'll ever actually happen, Sony has been a complete asshole when it comes to any type of modding, no matter how small and regardless if its a sp game or not, ever since years ago when they found out about Gameshark on the ps2 and put them completely out of business by threatening a lawsuit, since then their consoles have been arming up with every last modding proof method you can think of, as awesome as it would be to mod saves on ps4 games the chances of it ever happening are pretty slim, so don't get your hopes up.
    :rolleyes2:

and months later, we're still nowhere. It can't be that hard to reverse the save data. How many years has it been now? :(

Agreed, it would save me so much time not having to gather all those crafting materials to build the base i wanna create.
