So I have a xenon that has RROD and the RROD happened because I was trying to update the dashboard to the most recent dashboard. So when I bought my new falcon RGH I didn't purchase a hdd. Could I use the same hdd that was on my RRODed xenon? Or will it pop up as RROD again?

the hard drive will work fine. The RROD is cause by heat issues as with the early xbox's they used cheap solder and the heat syncs didnt displace the heat very well. I have 3 boxes that i use the same hdd on 2. 2 olds and one slim. the two olds i just swap the HDD.

Thanks man very good info here you should the award jtag/rgh expert. But yeah this gives me a lot more confidence but what will come up? Like what dashboard will pop up because It happened when I was trying to update it. I did all the steps correctly and then the last step I didn't, so my xenon got rrod. So what dash will be on there?

your new system will have whatever dash it had on it when you bought it. The dash information is not stored on the HDD, its believed to be stored on the Nand. So any update you made on your box that RROD'd is on that on and not the HDD.

RROD is a motherboard issue and not a hard drive issue, it could of been a coincidence when you were updating the dashboard, you should be able to pop on the HDD onto your new xbox without any troubles.

as long as you are flashing your nand with the correct rgh patches for the correct board your box shouldn't red ring after an update. if it did then your nand file is the problem. as for the hdd there is nothing on the hdd that will rrod your xbox.
