"A word of warning. MS is successfully (indirectly) detecting some xk3ys in testing. I have seen this first hand, leave it at that. Don't panic: they aren't able to directly detect (yet, anyhow), but by comparing hashes of names and hashes of pictures (all similar white squares or "ISO selected, open tray to proceed" folder names) in the Mixed Media Disc option enabled by MenuISO. See where this is going? Filenames contained within Mixed Media Discs are hashed and compared against a database of ISOs available on P2P, Usenet, etc.. If you're using the xk3y MenuISO and accept a future dash update, there's a very good chance that you'll get whacked by the banhammer. So far detection of the xk3y itself has been unsuccessful, this is a round-about way they are currently testing and getting ready to implement. "I believe in the beginning it was always stated that the MENUISO could easily be blocked by M$. I believe it was posted a few times to "enjoy it while it lasts" if I remember correctly. Logically if the can disable the MENUISO in an update it means they can probably also detect it.... If it can be detected then it means they can punish you (ban you) if they see fit. I guess, assuming this information is true, that it means M$ have been / are working on a way to do something about xkey... Which is no secret and makes sense... One of the security team or the like from M$ (tubinic or whatever the name was - the one who created the jTag and is now working for M$) already requested some of the source code under the GPL etc... I am sure that the skill of that dude would have already decoded / reverse engineered the rootfs and uimage files too (pure speculation on my part but the skills to do so are there so it makes sense logically it would have been done by now) People can only be banned when they connect to live and not from the firmware update itself - get flagged yes but not banned until connection made (as far as I am aware)... Well the think with that is with mix media disc as it could be a normal disc with pics and stuff on and MS cant detect that really i don't think anyway. As for the xkey itself its a emulator and if people get banned then they get banned but all your doing is emulating the disc drive so no disc needs to be used and the drive is not touched unless you actually flash it and mod the drive which in reason MS cannot touch you for as its not breaking the TOC until you actually play a BACKUP game I will be using the xkey no matter what and if i get banned myself i will just get another console and do exactly the same thing Nice info though as it keeps the community up to date
Yeah well paddster i read up on the xkey for a while before i actually bought one myself. Best bit of kit i bought in my eyes. I know there will always be a risk of getting banned i knew that from the start i was playing with a flashed console and ive been banned once since i have and that's a console ban for playing a PAL game early and very early but hey if it happens again it happens

i wonder if this is tied to xbox 360 live games not working on other accounts on the same system like you never had a license transfer or never downloaded on the system i know 5 people now thats having the same problem i know i am and its ****ing me off lol but i dont know if they can delect it fully yes the emulator part they should be able to since your using your dvd key and out side software lol but i hope they dont for the people that are using it
If u read the post at k3yforums the guy says they do hashing on the pics and filenames on mixed media discs. with the menuiso thing every pic is an identical white square and all the folders are named something like "eject to play" so it would be super simple for M$ to check that. Also said that they can hash the filenames so a well known P2P ISO name ("Halo.13.XBOX360.GrouPnAmE") could get you in heat. One of the xk3y devs said it was a doable attack.
Yeah true but the thing with that is if MS was gonna do anything then they would of done something by now as x-key has been out for a while anyway but who knows only time will tell
