its been goin over an hour, still 3 flashing red. im using a thermal paste, not that specific one. i live in toronto, and apparently all these electronic spots have no idea what im talking about when i ask for it. so thermal paste in general isnt easy to come by....unfortunately
    :(

k...im all out of options here. do u think the fact that im not using arctic 5 thermal compound could be the issue? im using a no name brand compound that is white and has the viscosity of white out. im thinking that arctic 5 may be a bit thicker and work. whats ur suggestion?

i found a spot that does sell the arctic 5, but only in the big tube....so i basically will get it if it works...but dont really wanna waste my $$$$ and gas if u dont think it makes a difference.

any help is always appreciated :)

It should not take hours to overheat if thats the way your trying to fix it
takes about 10 min for 3 lights to turn to 2

Feel your heatsinks are they getting hot if not there's another problem :|

Firstly whats the secondary error of the console? You maybe trying to fix something that frankly isnt fixable...

How to get the Xbox 360 secondary error code:

    http://youtu.be/h-vjwgoSEog

    4 Lights = 0
    3 lights = 3
    2 lights = 2
    1 light = 1

Post your secondary error code here...

there could be so many things that could be wrong screw tightness screws leveled out correctly paste used etc etc if youve bought a proper clamping kit and correct paste itll probably need a complete reflow but then youve gotta put all the heatsinks back on and hope for the best this is why i avoid red ringers like the ex missus too much hassle .

hopefully in a year or two we will stop seeing red ring error posts as theyve all blown up and been binned ..
