Pick up a rrod box never opened reflowed it and pasted it boots fine and everything but like 10 mins into play games freezes with green squares down the screen. Can anyone tell me what I can do to prevent this? Thanks
Reflow with flux. Then, to combat the heat, you can add some RAM heatsinks on the two in front of the GPU heatsink. Then, add thin thermal pads for the two under the GPU heat sink. If the console has memory under the board, you can also put thermal pads on those as well. How are you reflowing? Equipment or heat gun? Make sure you reflow all 4 (or 8 if you have memory under the board).
Heat guns are a bit of a no no. The heat isn't quite accurate. It's either too hot or not hot enough. You sound like you've done this several other times though. So, i'm sure you have a good one. Just spread the heat evenly. Be patient. The memory on the 360 is a bit odd. Requires some more effort than the larger BGAs like the CPU or GPU because your target is more than one chip, and they're smaller. I trust you're using flux? Do you need a few links for the heatsinks/thermal pads?
Reading this stuff is so interesting. Its too bad I'm terrible at it. Glad your with us Stanton. Sent from my LG-C800 using Tapatalk 2
A reflow station or use a oven is a better bet as a heatgun is innacurate with head transfer Some heatgun methods work but it all depends on the error of the xbox
This exactly! To be completely honest, you have guys have no clue how much i do trial and errors, and how many consoles I've destroyed due to my curiosity...
Usually HANA error if there's green squares down the screen, not RAM. RAM doesn't cause any graphical errors as it's all memory based. Just do a standard reflow, cool down, thermal paste 'cooking', another cool down then you should be set
Oven? You have to be careful with that method. I've done it twice on very stubborn Xenons. Mainly to reduce the board flex and act as a preheater. Then i heat gunned it. I don't have a cheap heat gun either. I was donated a $120 adjustable temp gun by a real cool guy a LONG time ago. Many people knock the oven, but if done right and CAREFULLY it DOES work.
I would one of you guys to do it since you have the experience but I want to. Learn is the trainers and the editors. Hopefully school will help me that too Sent from my LG-C800 using Tapatalk 2
Depends. Memory crashes can cause odd graphic displays. Most commonly it just freezes though. Which is his issue. Plus, if it had a memory issue before (like this one), the memory could be a fault still. I think the worst that's happened to me was a 12V short off the PSU input that caught my PSU on fire...
I leave the software to the pros on here. If you do want to learn, i'd suggest hitting up E (that's a no brainer xD), Feral, DJ Weed, ADDZ, XPGJack, etc. I don't think those guys would mind giving you a push in the right direction. The hardware and system files are my thing. I don't have a DEV kernel anymore. I was tired of the missus bitching about turning the console on and her profile not allowing her to sign in and the games being "hard" to find.... So, I've been out of the game modding side of things for a while. Until i can afford a dual NAND solution. I wasn't really that great at it anyways.
