Ubisoft has launched Ghost Recon Phantoms.

The free-to-play PC title, which was until recently called Ghost Recon Online, is now available to download on Steam.

The multiplayer shooter launches with three Â£6.99 starter packs which include weapons, tactical gear and ammo for each of the game's classes: Assault, Support and Recon.

A greater number of items can be purchased in three 'Advanced' class packs each priced at Â£18.99, while a 'Squad Starter Pack' costs Â£29.99.

"Step into the boots of an elite Ghost and deploy cutting-edge weapons and technology as you link up with your squad to dominate your enemies on tomorrow's battlefield," reads the Steam product listing.

"Pick from three to suit your play-style; each with unique Abilities to gain the upper hand against your enemies. Develop your character as you level up and unlock new equipment.

"Engage in fierce 16-player firefights with your fellow Ghosts, friends and clan mates. Playing together is easy with the fireteam feature and intuitive squad systems. Join or create your own clan to get in on the competitive action, where victory goes to the most coordinated team."
