"Destiny" developer Bungie recently stated that they knew about the infamous loot caves in their smash game before the launch. Apparently, the reason they never nullified the loot caves in the beginning was because they felt that it wouldn't be an issue due to the loot drop rate being the same in the caves as anywhere else in the game. "We didn't think they would be too much of an issue because the per-minute loot drop rate was no different than any other area of the game. In fact, Loot Caves drop less loot per hour than can be earned by playing the game normally," stated John Hopson of Bungie. Hopson continued by saying that the reason that loot caves really took off is because people would rather earn loot slow with minimal effort rather than quickly with a larger amount of effort, and that Bungie didn't consider that thought in the development of the game.
