These golden bullets, sofusbuvir, are a provenant effective treatment for hepatitis C. However, as with all medications, they require not only the correct administration but also a vigilant avoidance of drugs, substances, and in some instances behaviors that may hinder their efficacy and possibly exacerbate the sought after side effects.

Alcohol is also something to be avoided while taking sofosbuvir. Hepatitis C already has an impact on the liver which makes alcohol consumption potentially dangerous in that it can attack living liver cells and impede healing process. Drinking alcohol alongside antiviral therapy can also impair treatment and may increase the chances of developing side effects.

A potential drug interaction is also important to remember. Sofosbuvir‘s function can be altered by some prescribed drugs. Some example of drugs that may cause severe adverse affects when taken with sofosbuvir are amiodarone, used in irregular heartbeat. And the drugs and herbal remedies that can lower the drugs concentration are rifampin and St. John‘s Wort. Make sure your notifying your doctor of any prescribed, OTC or herbal medicines you may be taking.

Similarly, do not miss doses or change the time at which you take your treatment. Not taking all your medication or not taking it at the same time each day will not only make the treatment less effective, but could result in the virus being resistant to the drug, which makes the infection much more difficult to treat.

Another factor may be diet. Taking sofosbuvir with or without food should not make a difference but it is recommended to stay away from unhealthy diets which cause more stress to the liver such as too much fatty and processed foods. A healthy diet goes hand in hand with the treatment success.

Furthermore do not self-medicate or take recreational drugs while on treatment. Taking drugs that have not been prescribed can affect the course of treatment and damage your liver. Smoking should also be decreased or stopped as it is not good for your health.

Finally, don’t try to finish the medication without consulting your doctor if you are feeling better. Even if you feel well you are not cured until you have finished the medication.

In brief, as you use sofobuvir, please stay away from alcohol, unsafe drug interactions, missed dose and alcohol abuse. You will have higher a success rate and faster recovery if you listen to your doctor and adopt a healthy habit.
