PS4 system update 1.75 is available to download now, Sony has confirmed, adding support for 3D Blu-rays.

Sound quality also improved during 1.5x playback, among other features

Sony has released PS4 system software update version 1.75.

The highlight feature is the introduction of 3D Blu-ray support for the console.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said in June that a number of highly anticipated PS4 features announced when the console was revealed in February 2013 are still in development, although he couldn't give a timeframe for their release.

One is a resume and suspend feature, which is expected to significantly reduce software loading times by keeping the console in a low power state while preserving game sessions.

Additionally, Sony said last February that it plans to use Gaikai to enable players to take control of a friend's game remotely in order to help out during tricky sections.

At E3 in June, Sony announced that Far Cry 4 owners will be able to invite friends to play co-op with them even if their partner does not have a copy of the game. PlayStation Europe president Jim Ryan told CVG that the feature is "the first manifestation" of an idea that is "envisaged as a platform level feature".

August's Xbox One system update will also enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on the console, while improving its social features and adding remote purchasing and downloading options.
