theres a even better way at earth over at the spawn cave you dont even have to shoot and you still get the loot from other players farming at the loot cave and when you do get kicked for not played all the blue/purples get sent to your lost box at the tower

Not only are the drops random (green, blue, purple orbs) but when you turn them in to the Cryptark, his "decodes" are all random too (might get a blue from a green, or a green from a purple, doesn't matter). So until Bungie fixes it so you get green for green, and purple from purple, the only way to get stuff is to farm, and that "treasure cave" is the best way since the respawns are so quick.
