Xbox Europe vice president Chris Lewis has announced he will be retiring, after having spent the last 25 years with Microsoft in order to pursue his own business interests. Lewis joined Microsoft in 1989 and had held various positions within the Xbox business since its inception. Microsoft is now seeking a replacement. “Since joining Microsoft as one of the first UK employees in 1989, Chris has made significant contributions across the partner, enterprise and retail businesses,” said CVP of Microsoft’s devices and studios marketing group Yusuf Mehdi. “He has been a distinguished leader for our Xbox team in Europe – overseeing the launch of the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Kinect and most recently Xbox One, and growing the business significantly across the region. “Following that success, Chris has now chosen to retire from Microsoft and focus on his other business and personal interests. We wish Chris nothing but the best, and we thank him for everything he’s contributed to Xbox and Microsoft as a whole over the past 25 years.” Source VG247
I wonder if this retirement has anything to do with the new CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella? After all he has investors pushing him to kill of the Xbox , Bing, and Surface and focus on core enterprises like selling enterprise software to businesses. If we start seeing other key figures of the Entrainment sector walking then we know whats up!
It's not the CEO that's leaving, that's the trouble! The new CEO (Satya Nadella) is the one that has investors on his back about axing the entertainment portion of Microsoft including Xbox.
Lets hope for the best then! I think they should hire someone young and ambitious, so he could bring some new fresh ideas into Microsoft
They go where the money is, and it depends on the clout the investors have also.... Bill Gates is a traditionalist, but the new CEO is anything but... "Our industry does not respect tradition, it only respects innovation" Satya Nadella
Yup, actually every company is. But when its about a company like Microsoft, I think they should make money their main goal. They better set there goal on new ideas, thats my opinion though.
