Nintendo have patched the latest Webkit Browser Exploit with their latest firmware v5.1.1 which has just been released for the Nintendo Wii U, which means all hopes off online mods and homebrew have been dashed.

Only a week ago MarioNumber1 updated the v4.x codebase of the released Wii U Browser Exploit, enabling it to run on the latest v5.0.0 and v5.1.0 updates from Nintendo. This allowed the use of online mods and there were also hopes of being able to dump the Wii U keys and running homebrew.

Nintendo of course were hot on the tail of this webkit browser exploit and have released a firmware update. The latest update version 5.1.1 patches all known webkit browser exploits which means the only way of modding on the Wii U now is offline.

If you would like to continue modding on the Wii U, of course the advice is to not update to the latest firmware v5.1.1
The downside to not updating is that you will be prevented from playing online with friends and may not be able to play the latest games.

So what do you think, are you glad Nintendo patched this exploit to prevent online mods, or are you a modder that enjoys playing online with cheats? Let us know in the comments below.
