Ultimate Wii softmode tutorial for 4.2

THE ULTIMATE WII SOFTMOD GUIDE​

For Virgin 4.2 Nintendo Wii​

THIS GUIDE ASSUMES YOU HAVE :-
*- SET YOUR WII UP TO USE YOUR WIFI
*- UPDATED TO LATEST 4.2 UPDATE
*- UNPLUGGED ANY MEMORY CARDS & GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS
*- AN SD CARD TO USE WHICH YOU CAN READ ON THE PC If you have not yet done so please do so BEFORE CONTINUING.

PREPARING THE SD CARD​

With the included software you have 4 folders inside....

*Folder named “SD” (everything for the SD card will be here)
*Folder named “PC” (nus downloader is here)
*Folder named “cBoot2Download” (This saves you from downloading it)
*Folder named “NEW” (Something we will use at the end)

Next we will be using Nus Downloader to download IOS249.wad You may first need to click generate certificates (pink box in the middle)
Download IOS249 (v65280) with Nus Downloader and rename it to IOS249.wad YOU RENAME IT IN THE BOX AT THE BOTTOM :-
Also check the pack wad box !

There should now be a folder in your “PC” Folder named “00000001000000F9v65280” , open it and copy the IOS249.wad to the “SD\WAD” folder. CLOSE NUS DOWNLOADER. Now copy everything in the “SD” Folder , over to the root of your SD Card.
YOUR SD CARD IS NOW READY !

USING BANNERBOMB TO START HACKMII INSTALLER​

1- SWITCH ON YOUR WII
2- GO TO YOUR SD CARD MENU (The small SD Card picture bottom left)
3- PUT IN YOUR SD CARD
4- BANNERBOMB SHOULD BOOT AND ASK IF YOU WANT TO LOAD .DOL OR .ELF
5- CLICK YES
This will now install quite quickly, you will now arrive at the HACKMII INSTALLER MENU...
You will be told if you can install BOOTMII as boot2 or IOS
1- INSTALL THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL (Now referred too as HBC)
2- INSTALL BOOTMII (as Ios or boot2 depending on what you were told)
3- INSTALL DVDX
Once you are done , select EXIT , to exit the installer, you will now be in THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL, if at this point your Wii freezes (not uncommon) then simply keep your hand on the power button, on the Wii for a few seconds, then once it switches off, switch it back on and select THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL from the main Wii menu.
Now lets get this Bootmii sorted !!
1- Take the SD Card out of the Wii & Put back in the PC
2- Move the entire “BOOTMII” folder from the SD card into the “NEW” Folder
3- Make sure the BOOTMII folder is deleted from the SD Card
4- Copy the contents of “cBoot2Download” to the ROOT of your SD Card
5- Rename “boot.elf” to “boothackmii.elf” (on the SD Card)
6- Rename “boot_wadmanager.dol” to “boot.dol” (on the SD Card)
7- Switch off the Wii (we will be back to it shortly)

REMOVE IOS249 STUB WITH WAD MANAGER AND CBOOT2​

Now that we have cBoot2 on the SD Card we are ready to delete the IOS249 stub from the Wii so we can install cIOS (Custom IOS)
1- Put Your SD Card back into the Wii
2- Switch The Wii On
3- Select HBC from the Wii Menu (Remember HBC = Homebrew Channel (Last reminder!))
4- Click Start so HBC runs (ANY POINT DURING THIS GUIDE IF IT ASKS TO UPDATE SELECT NO)
5- Now Press The HOME button on your Wiimote
6- Select Launch Bootmii
Now cBoot2 will start , in some cases it messes up the screen big time, don’t worry though it will be OK in A few seconds you should see A Wad Manager 1.4 screen
1- PRESS A TO CONTINUE
2- CHOOSE < WII SD SLOT>
3- HIGHLIGHT IOS249.wad
4- PRESS A TO CONTINUE
5- PRESS < ON YOUR WIIMOTE SO THE SELECTION CHANGES TO UNINSTALL WAD
6- PRESS A TO CONTINUE & UNINSTALL THE WAD
7- WHEN ITS DONE PRESS HOME TO RETURN TO YOUR WII SYSTEM MENU
Now that we have moved the IOS249 stub (The 4.2 protection to stop things running as i painstakingly found out) we can move forward to install CIOS38 rev 14.

Dop-ios​

1- START HBC AND LOAD DOP-IOS
2- PRESS RIGHT UNTIL YOU SEE IOS53
3- PRESS A TO SELECT YES TO INSTALL AND SIG HASH CHECK
4- WHEN INSTALLED EXIT BACK TO HBC (Don’t worry about the 1 error if any)
5- LOAD DOP-IOS AGAIN
6- PRESS RIGHT UNTIL YOU SEE IOS55
7- PRESS A TO SELECT YES TO INSTALL AND SIG HASH CHECK
8- WHEN INSTALLED EXIT BACK TO HBC (Don’t worry about the 1 error if any)
9- LOAD DOP-IOS FOR A 3RD AND FINAL TIME
10- PRESS RIGHT UNTIL YOU SEE IOS70
11- PRESS A TO SELECT YES TO INSTALL AND SIG HASH CHECK
12- WHEN INSTALLED EXIT BACK TO HBC (Don’t worry about the 1 error if any)

INSTALLING CIOS38 REV 14​

1- PUT THE SD CARD BACK IN YOUR PC
2- RENAME “boot.dol” to “boot_wadmanager.dol” (On The SD Card)
3- RENAME “cIOS38_rev14_Installer.dol” to “boot.dol” (On The SD Card)
4- NOW PUT SD CARD BACK IN THE WII
5- GO INTO HBC AND PRESS HOME
6- SELECT LAUNCH BOOTMII (SCREEN MAY GO FUNNY FOR A BIT , IGNORE IT & WAIT)
7- CHOOSE “Do Not Reload IOS” AT THE IOS SELECT SCREEN
8- PRESS A TO CONTINUE
9- CHOOSE “Network Install” AT THE NEXT SCREEN
The installer will now download and install some files. Your then one step closer !

HERMES CIOS INSTALLER [OPTIONAL]​

You only need this if you actually use the USB Ports for microphones or instruments. If you don’t want to install this, then skip to the next section, Installing Backup Loaders and USB Loaders.
1- RESTART WII
2- PUT SD CARD IN THE WII
3- RUN HBC
4- SELECT “Anytitledeleter_MOD” FROM THE MENU
5- IGNORE THE ERROR IF YOU GET IT AND PRESS 1 IF REQUIRED
6- GO TO SYSTEM TITLES
7- DELETE IOS222
8- DELETE IOS223
9- EXIT THE APPLICATION
10- RETURN TO HBC (PRESS HOME ON THE WIIMOTE)
11- SELECT CIOS 222 INSTALLER V4
12- SELECT IOS249 FOR INSTALL
13- INSTALL CUSTOM IOS222
14- USE IOS38 (recommended) SETTING
15- IT WILL THEN RUN THROUGH AND AUTOMATICLY EXIT BACK TO HBC
16- RE-RUN THE APPLICATION (CIOS 222 INSTALLER V4) FROM HBC
17- SELECT IOS249 FOR INSTALL
18- INSTALL CUSTOM IOS223
19- USE IOS38 MERGED WITH IOS37 SETTING
20- IT WILL THEN RUN THROUGH AND EXIT BACK TO HBC
21- TURN OFF THE WII
YOUR DONE INSTALLING HERMES CUSTOM IOS !

INSTALLING CONFIGURABLE USB LOADER WITH WAD MANAGER​

THE LAST STEP !!
1- PUT THE SD CARD INTO THE PC
2- DELETE EVERYTHING FROM THE SD CARD
3- COPY THE CONTENTS OF “NEW” TO THE ROOT OF THE SD CARD
4- TURN THE WII BACK ON
5- PUT THE SD CARD INTO THE WII
6- BOOT HBC
7- START WAD MANAGER 1.5
8- SELECT IOS249
9- CHOOSE WII SD SLOT
10- SELECT USB LOADER .wad AND INSTALL (If you want to hook up an external USB Hard drive and Play your Games from here), else just SKIP TO STEP 12
11- QUIT WAD MANAGER WHEN ALL INSTALLED BY PRESSING THE HOME BUTTON
THAT IS IT YOU ARE NOW MODDED, RESTART THE WII.
12- IF YOU JUST WANT TO PLAY BURNT DVDR (-R) THEN JUST GO INTO HBC AND SELECT NEOGAMMA AND THEY WILL LOAD.
YOU CAN NOW PLAY BACKUP DVDR’S BY LAUNCHING NEOGAMMA CHANNEL, OR YOU CAN PLAY DIRECTLY FROM THE HARD DRIVE (USB) BY SELECTING THE CONFIGURABLE USB LOADER CHANNEL. ALWAYS KEEP THE SD CARD IN THE WII WHEN USING THE WII OTHERWISE NEOGAMMA AND USB LOADER WILL NOT WORK.
FINAL NOTE – If you wish for WAD MANAGER To be removed from HBC (maybe to stop your children messing with it) then simply pop your SD Card back into the PC, Go to the apps folder and delete the “WAD MANAGER 1.5” folder.
Some notes on USB HARD DRIVE LOADERS. You will need WBFS MANAGER to format the USB Drive and to put your ISO IMAGES onto your hard drive. GET IT HERE > http://tinyurl.com/wbfsmanagerapp
Not all USB Hard drives are supported, I personally use the SEAGATE FREEAGENT DESK EXTERNAL DRIVE. Although I have tried quite a few different Seagate drives and none have worked, other than the mentioned one
