Bungie is opening up two of Destiny’s new multiplayer modes to all Guardians next week, ahead of The Taken King’s launch on September 15th.On September 8th, all Destiny players will be able to try out The Taken King’s Rift and Mayhem Crucible modes across the maps Memento, Bannerfall, Crossroads, Vertigo, The Dungeons, Frontier and The Drifter. PlayStation owners also get access to a platform exclusive map, Sector 618.Mayhem is Team Deathmatch with a twist; Guardians’ Supers regenerate exceptionally fast, leading to Nova Bombing, Blade Dancing, Fist of Havoc-ing chaos. When The Taken King launches you’ll be able to bust out the Supers of the new subclasses too, but for the Preview Event you’ll have to stick with what you already have.Rift, meanwhile, is an objective-based multiplayer mode broadly similar to Call of Duty’s Uplink; Guardians must gain control of a Spark and take it to their enemy’s base to destroy their Rift. You can totally backflip dunk the Spark into enemy Rifts too, which looks like great fun.The Taken King Crucible Preview Event begins on September 8th and runs until September 15th, when the expansion launches. All Destiny owners can get in on the action. Everyone. When The Taken King launches, only those with the expansion will be able to access the modes and maps.
